In Support of Kahramanmaraş Earthquake Relief

THEY NEED YOUR HELP!

The American Turkish Association of North Carolina (ATA-NC) extends its deepest condolences to the families of victims of the devastating earthquake in southern Türkiye. The 7.8 and 7.5 (9 hours later) magnitude earthquakes took the lives of over 31648 people (and increasing) and left more than 80278 injured and over 11862 buildings collapsed according to reports.

Upon receipt of the news, ATA-NC immediately established an Earthquake Emergency Committee (EEC) to plan and coordinate the relief efforts. Some of the initial results are:

  • As a result of ATA-NC BOD decision, $5,000 funding was provided to purchase most urgent supplies (e.g.,  emergency outdoor blankets, large hand and body warmers and mylar blankets). The supplies were shipped to the Turkish Embassy in Washington DC to be sent to Türkiye via Turkish Airlines.

  • EEC provided information about the ongoing work to the media organizations (WRAL, ABC 11 and Spectrum News) at the Turkish House on Monday evening.

  • Subcommittees were established for media communications, supply coordination, local in-person donation collection and to work with our youth group.

  • A flyer is prepared and copies are posted around the community.

  • Social media platforms are continuously being updated (please see links above on the menu bar).

ATA-NC conveys its deepest condolences to all the victims and their families and hopes that those who were injured recover as soon as possible. ATA-NC also extends its gratitude to all who made their donations already. ATA-NC is using all monetary donations to address the urgent needs in affected regions by partnering with vetted Turkish non-governmental organizations (NGOs)

Thank you for your support!
