Now in its tenth year, the Nâzım Hikmet Poetry Competition is accepting submissions through January 15, 2018. Poets from all over the world are welcome to submit their work via the competition’s Submittable page: https://nhpf.submittable.com/submit
Entrants should submit three English-language poems in a single Word document. Entries are only accepted online through Submittable. There is an entry fee of $10 per submission (a single submission consists of three poems, as stated previously).
The competition is part of the Nâzım Hikmet Poetry Festival (NHPF), an annual celebration of poetry bringing together poets, scholars and poetry fans in the humanistic spirit of the internationally renowned Turkish poet Nâzım Hikmet Ran. NHPF is organized by the American-Turkish Association of North Carolina, hosted by the Town of Cary and features live poetry readings, panel discussions and music.
A committee of renowned poets, writers and literary scholars will select the winning submissions.
Greg Dawes, Distinguished Professor, Dept. of Foreign Languages and Literatures, NC State University
Jaki Shelton Green, Writer and poet, 2009 Piedmont Laureate, NC Literary Hall of Fame Inductee
Erdağ Göknar, Associate Professor, Asian & Middle Eastern Studies, Duke University
Rachel Richardson, NEA Fellow and Wallace Stegner Fellow
Winners will receive a $100 award. Winning poems and honorable mentions will be published in the 2018 NHPF anthology and on the festival web site. Six poets, selected from winners, honorable mentions and long list finalists will have their work nominated for a Pushcart Prize. Both winners and honorable mentions will be invited to read their work at the festival in Cary, North Carolina, on April 8, 2018. The winners and honorable mentions will be announced on the NHPF Facebook page and nazimhikmetpoetryfestival.org no later than March 1, 2018.
