11th Book Read: Karsiyaka Memleket by Kemal Anadol
Discussion took place in May and the moderator was Ayse Keskiner. Kemal Anadol was born in 1941 in Safranbolu, Turkey.
Tenth Book Read: Crescent & Star, Turkey Between Two Worlds by Stephen Kinzer
Discussion took place on March 28, 2004 at Turk Evi Turkish School. 14 members read the book and moderator was Haluk Keskiner.
Ninth Book Read: Bes Sehir by Ahmet Hamdi Tanpinar
Moderated by Gunseli Shareef, discussion took place on February 22, 2004 at Cary Border’s Book Store. 11 members attended. First published in 1946, Bes Sehir is considered one of the Turkish Republic’s early classics.
Eight Book Read: Mutluluk by Zülfü Livaneli
Moderated by Birgul Tuzlali,discussion took place on January 11, 2004 at Cary Border’s Book Store. 14 members attended.Mutluluk is a book about the contrasting relationship of three individuals from completely different segments of Turkish Society.
Seventh Book Read: Halide’s Gift by Frances Kazan
Moderated by Ayse Pamucak. 10 members read the book and discussion took place on November 2nd, 2003. Set in Istanbul in the dying days of the Ottoman empire, Halide’s Gift is the story of a family with a secret, and a society in turbulent transition.
Sixth Book Read: Seven Houses by Alev Lytle Croutier
Moderated by Fatos Simsek. 10 members read the book and discussion took place on September 7th, 2003 at Cary’s Ritter Park Shelter. Seven Houses follows the journey of Amber Ipekçi’s return to her birthplace of Turkey.
Fifth Book Read: Camlica’nin Üç Gülü by Hifzi Topuz
Moderated by Munevver Oktay. 12 members read the book and discussion took place on May 7th, 2003 at Regency Park Amphitheather. This is a novel about three sisters who were involved in the resistance of the occupation forces prior to the Turkish Republic.
Fourth Book Read: Karincanin Su Ictigi by Yasar Kemal
Moderated by Emin Pamucak. 10 members read the book and discussion took place on March 30, 2003 at the Turk Evi. Karincanin Su Ictigi is the second volume of the series titled Bir Ada Hikayesi by Yasar Kemal.
Third Book Read: Köprü by Ayse Kulin
Moderated by Nur Onvural. 15 members read the book and discussion took place on February 10, 2003. Ayse Kulin graduated from the American College for Girls in Istanbul. For many years she worked in various sectors of the Turkish media.
Second Book Read: Firat Suyu Kan Akiyor Baksana by Yasar Kemal
Moderated by Can Guralp. 10 members read the book and discussion took place on December 7th, 2002. Yasar Kemal is one of the world\'s greatest storytellers. He writes fearlessly about the common people of Anatolia.
First Book Read: My Name is Red by Orhan Pamuk
Moderated by Ziya Gizlice. 6 members read the book and discussion took place on August 24, 2002. Orhan Pamuk is an internationally acclaimed author of eight books which has been translated into over twenty languages.
